CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest 2015 conducted, 21 schools participate

Srinagar, June 2: The Srinagar City round of the famous CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest 2015 was conducted here on Monday in which 21 teams from in and around Srinagar participated. Schools from distant places including Anantnag came all the way to Srinagar to participate. This was the first time that a crossword based contest was conducted for schoolchildren in Srinagar.
The Srinagar City Round was conducted at Delhi Public School, Sheikhpura, Budgam. Kushagra Singh, Director (Legal & PR) CCCC 2015 conducted the Srinagar City Round along with Vigya Prakash and Venkatesh.
Pertinently, the CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest is nation's first crossword based contest for students of class' 9th to 12th of all boards. CCCC 2015 is an initiative to promote crossword solving among the school going children of India. Solving crossword puzzles help students improve their vocabulary, reasoning, lateral thinking and analytical abilities. Each School team was given one Crossword Puzzle to solve in one hour's time. The team with the maximum correct solution was adjudged the winner.
Tabish Mir and Raashid Altaf of Burn Hall School, Srinagar won the Srinagar City Round followed by Ahmad Saalim and Tabia Imtiaz of Delhi Public School, Budgam which came a close second. Zoya Zaffar and Zaffer Ishaq of Delhi Public School, Srinagar came third.
The winners, the team from Burn Hall School, Srinagar has now qualified for the CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest 2015 Grand Finale, which will be held in New Delhi in the month of December.
The Principal of the Host School, DPS, Sheikhpura, Budgam, Mehfooz Aslam was enthusiastic about the event and interacted with the participants. He also motivated the students to undertake extracurricular activities. Meanwhile, Umar Aziz Sofi, the teacher in charge made sure that the flow of the event was properly maintained.
The event was organized by EXTRA-C, a civil society initiative for extra curricular development of students. The event was held in the presence of Rakesh Kr. Singh, President, EXTRA-C, Pratima Singh, Secretary, EXTRA-C, Gunjan Kr. Singh, Consultant, Alka Singh, Consultant Questions, Abhya Singh, Pravin Kr., Member, EXTRA-C, Pratyaksha, Priti Singh, Adya Singh, Nanya Dev Singh, Venkatesh Singh.
