Early Times Report

Jammu, June 2: The power crisis have deepened in Jammu and there is no hope of improving the same in coming days too. The failure of State Government to tide over the power crisis facing the State in general and Jammu region in particular ahs compounded the problem and the public resentment is increasing against the same day by day. According to sources the State Government which is fully aware that its position will become awkward due to increasing power cuts in Summer as there is a lot of difference in demand and supply it has failed to take up the issue with Union Government demanding increase in supply from Northern Grid to meet the domestic needs.
The claims of the coalition to improve the power supply besides concentrate on generating more power projects in the State. But during the last three months the Government has done little in this regard though it is fully knowing that the people in the State will be put to many hardships due to power crisis in scorching Summer hear when the consumption also increases tremendously.
The power problem is not being faced by people in Jammu region but Kashmir Valley too where in the rural belt and far flung areas people have to face 16to 18 hour long power cuts in a day. According to one
Zulifkar a resident of Nanail Anantang people outside the Valley think that Jammu is facing the power curtailment while the Kashmir gets round the clock power supply which is not the fact. In reality people of both the regions face the power crisis.
Zulfkar's views were substantiated by Monu Chib a house wife residing in village Deharan in Mishriwala Rural Jammu said the power scenario is worst in the State and they have been facing constantly whole night black out in this hot Summer. She said the children pass sleepless nights and it was expected that with the change of guard the power scenario will also change with new government taking all required steps to improve power supply but nothing has been done in this regard in last three months. The power crisis are taking critical turn in the State and people term them worst ever but the Government is totally showing unconcern. The power remained off for entire Jammu for 14 hours from 9pm yesterday to 11 am this morning after Janipur -Gladni line developed some snag. The PDD could not find out the fault during the night and it was only removed in the morning after patrolling team located the line where the fault ahs occurred. However the authorities instead of looking into the matter are passing bucks against each other with common masses suffering a lot. The Deputy Chief Minister who holds the power portfolio needs to exert more in bettering the power supply for the State which is facing worst ever crisis. Dr Singh should know that State is facing a shortage of over 100 mws of domestic generation due to snag in various power projects in the State.
