Early Times Report Srinagar, June 2: Thousands of Kashmiri students who appeared in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)- 2015 may see their hope of becoming engineer dashed, thanks to J&K Board of School Education (BOSE). In the run-up to June 10, the last date of confirming/updating records to avail the ranks, the students say the persistent problems they face have already left them out of the race. "We mentioned 2015 as the academic year while uploading the documents," said a student Sahil. "But once our results were out, we were declared as October 2014 pass-outs, which can now mismatch the details." In case of mismatch, the JEE guidelines sternly warn students: "In the absence of details, or details not matching with the authenticated data provided by the board as mentioned by the candidate in his/her application form, the ranking will not be given for JEE (Main)-2015 without giving any further notice." On the face of clear JEE guidelines, the students are apparently staring at their 'lost chance'. "Mismatch happened as the BOSE kept students in the dark. They conducted exams in 2015, but gave us marks cards of Oct 2014. They should have at least cleared the mess in first go itself to avoid creating confusion," Sahil said. JEE is an all India common engineering entrance examination conducted for admission in various engineering colleges across India. In 2012, CBSE announced this common examination in place of AIEEE and IIT-JEE. Apart from the mismatching detail, another glaring worry is the seven-digit roll number allotted to Kashmiri students. "Once we visit JEE website to fill the particulars, it either asks for 6 or 8 digit roll number," said Ayaan, another student. "The website doesn't entertain the seven digit allotted roll number, which has created crisis for all of us." Similarly, when Sahil entered his seven-digit roll number (8116220), the website refused to entertain it, displaying: "Error". Both Sahil and Ayaan said that the officials shrugged off their calls of enquiry. Some calls that got through were being responded as-"Keep trying!" Lately, mobile breakdown in Valley has further deepened the crisis for many students failing to contact JEE officials. The JEE-Mains is the first stage of the JEE. The two-tier examination is held for the engineering undergraduate admissions to the NITs and Centrally-funded institutes as well as a number of leading private universities and institutes. The JEE-Mains for 2015 was held on April 4 and the result was announced on April 27. Currently, a major controversy is raging on the various inconsistencies in the answer keys published by CBSE as pointed out by several students and coaching institutes, thus putting a serious question mark over CBSE's ability to host this examination. |
