Festive fervor continues on 2nd day of Aghar Jitto Mela

Katra, June 2: Thousands of people within the state and other parts of country thronged the Aghar Jitto on the second day of the three-day historic Aghar Jitto Mela being organized every year in the memory of Baba Jitto, a revolutionary folk hero who is remembered and revered for his campaign against the feudal system to ameliorate the conditions of his fellow farmers. Baba Aghar Jitto mela is organized every year by District Administration in collaboration with local Mandir Committee where Lakhs of people come from different parts irrespective cast, religion and pay their respect to Baba Jitto. Speaking on the occasion, Mela Officer (Tehsildar Katra) Dr Kavita Pandoh said that District administration has taken special measures for the big success of the Mela. She further added that during the whole three days of Mela, several fair exhibitions and stalls are being organized by different government departments like agriculture, horticulture and floriculture, and other departments to educate the people about various government schemes and incentives so that people could avail the benefits.
Pandoh said that on the first day, the special cultural programs, skits, plays, dogri movie was presented besides shobha Yatra was taken and after puja arti bhajan all night, it concludes at main mandir in Aghar jitto on second day. The puja archana all night long in the form of Jagrata was performed. On second and third day, special folk drama by famous artists of Jammu "Natrang" depicting the saying and sacrifice of Baba ji's Legends is going to be the main attraction. The mela will conclude with Dangal, a wrestling match in which local as well wrestlers from all over India will participate. Number of temporary sweet shops, toy shops and other eatable corners by the locals as well as outside vendors are also installed for the tourists as well as local people visiting the Mela site.
