Early Times Report

Udhampur, Aug 10: As traffic police allegedly has failed to adhere to implement District Magistrate's (DM) restrictions on entry of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) in city the unabated movement of heavy motor vehicles claimed the life of a woman when an oil tanker knocked her down on Monday.
According to reports a middle aged woman was killed in a road accident on Dhar Road when an oil tanker crushed her to death while overtaking another vehicle on Monday.
"The deceased has been identified as Geeta Devi wife of Punjab Chand resident of Housing Colony, police sources said.
Report added that due to lackadaisical approach of traffic police who failed to implement order of District Magistrate about restricting movement of HMVs in city but following the two day long blockade on Jammu Srinagar Highway when traffic was allowed the stranded truckers competed to pass each other.
"And in this hurry an oil tanker crushed a woman to death at Barrian in Dhar Road, here today, police sources said.
"Oil Tanker with regd no: JK02VE-3950 hit the woman, police sources said adding, "the police team took the body to District hospital Udhampur, for identification and postmortem. Police also have arrested driver of oil tanker identified namely as Mushtaq Ahmad s/o Ahmad-ul-lah of Chamalbas in Kashmir and have registered a case against him and started investigations.
Here it needs to mention that keeping in view the frequent accident on Dhar road and to decongest city roads District Magistrate (DM) Udhampur has issued restrictions on entry of heavy vehicles in Udhampur City and police (Traffic) too has been directed to allow heavy vehicles and Srinagar and Doda bound vehicles to proceed through bye pass road from Rehmabal and Jakhani points.
Locals alleged that police (Traffic) flouting all norms allowed stranded truckers to pass through Dhar road which passes through city and it resulted into death of woman.
After the accident, traffic once again got chocked for hours. Today's incident also rekindled the harrowing memory of a similar road tragedy when a school going girl was knocked down to death by a truck last year.
Meanwhile agitated family members and locals staged protest on Dhar Road who placed the body of victim on the road to register their resentment later political leaders and their supporters also joined in the protest. The protestors were demanding compensation to the victim's family and action against the cops responsible for the today's accident .
Meanwhile District Magistrate Udhampur briefly ahs said action would be taken against those responsible for act.
