BJP leaders wanted to crush AIIMS agitation with an 'iron fist' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 10: BJP ministers failing to strike a chord with people in both the regions is turning out to be a big challenge for its coalition partner Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its hampering the functioning of the PDP-BJP government. Sources told Early Times that poor performance of the BJP ministers has disappointed the people as the present regime which came into power with a promise to mitigate the sufferings of masses and to undo the wrongs committed by the erstwhile NC-Congress government has failed to live up to their expectations mostly due to the misdeeds of the BJP leaders and ministers. "It's unfortunate that BJP ministers are acting like monarchs and remain inaccessible. They seem least bothered about the fact that they are public representatives and they are in power due to people," said an analyst. Referring to the ongoing agitation in Jammu to seek full-fledged AIIMS for the region, the analyst said, "The people of Jammu revolting against the party should have served as an eye opener for the party leadership but it hasn't been so. Instead of reconciling with the Coordination Committee (spearheading the agitation to seek full-fledged AIIMS for the region) BJP leaders and ministers tried their best to break the Committee and discredit it. BJP leaders trying to play politics over the AIIMS issue has further outraged the masses." He said that BJP seems to have forgotten that if today party is in power it's due to the fact that people of Jammu came out in hordes to vote for the party and ensured that BJP wins 25 out of 37 seats in the region. "After BJP became the part of the government people of Jammu had thought that it would become the voice of people and won't allow any discrimination with the region. It's unfortunate that after assuming power BJP leaders changed their colour like a chameleon and started ignoring the people of the Jammu region who brought them into the power," the analyst said. Sources told Early Times that BJP leaders from Jammu region wanted the AIIMS agitation to be crushed with an iron fist. " Had the Chief Minister and the PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed not intervened the BJP leaders had decided to act tough against the AIIMS Coordination Committee and get them evicted forcibly. Even some BJP leaders had suggested to the central BJP leadership not to announce AIIMS for Jammu region till the CC calls off its agitation," insiders revealed. They said that Chief Minister did not allow the BJP leaders to go ahead with their plan and intervened. "Mufti telephoned the Union Health Minister J P Nadda and requested him to issue a notification to establish AIIMS in Jammu as well as Kashmir region. However, Nadda told Mufti that it can't be done till the Parliament session gets over." The Chief Minister, according to the sources, persuaded Nadda to issue a statement asking the Jammu and Kashmir government to identify two pieces of land in Jammu and Srinagar to set up the facility. Following Nadda's announcement AIIMS CC called off the Jammu bandh but decided to continue with chain hunger strike till the notification for setting up full-fledged AIIMS in the Jammu region. |
