Her own son studying abroad, Asiya Andrabi happy for other youth into militancy

ET Report
srinagar, Aug 10: Firebrand separatist leader and Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi is often among the first to pay tributes to militants killed in gun battles and glorifies their valour, but her own son is studying abroad.
Asiya's elder son Mohammed Bin Qasim is in Malaysia where he is pursuing Bachelors of Information Technology at Islamic University of Malaysia.
On August 7, when Qasim was "chilling around with his friends in Malaysia" and Facebook posts were highlighting the same, back home Pulwama was on the boil, while his mother was busy glorifying youth who join militant ranks in Kashmir and get killed.
On the fateful day Asiya paid glowing tributes to Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) militant Mohammad Afzal Shah alias Talib a resident of Kakapora. Shah was killed a gun battle.
Come any killing of militant, Asiya never misses to issue handout to pay glowing tributes to the departed souls.
In a bid to indoctrinate more and more youth towards militancy, her statements often sound similar. "The slain militant who was fighting achieved martyrdom for the sake of Almighty. The militants gave a tough fight to a huge contingent of army and police," she says.
The same she observed for militant killed in Pulwama whose death triggered massive protests in south Kashmir.
The slain militant, was a post graduate in Physical Education, but went into hiding in 2013 and joined the Lashkar cadres. It was the same time around when Asiya sent her son abroad for specialized-modern education.
Even as the separatist leaders glorify militancy to entice youth towards gun culture, their own children often enjoy all comforts of life.
Take the case of pro Pakistan hawk Syed Ali Geelani. He must have led hundreds of funeral prayers of militants killed in the past 23 years of conflict, but none of his own children or grandchildren is into separatist politics or militancy. "For that matter his grandchildren study at leading Christian missionary schools, though he often wants other children to follow the path of Islamic teachings," said a senior police official, adding that "people need to realize this bitter reality of separatist politics."
It is said Geelani called off the 2010 street protests only because his grandchildren were complaining that their career was at stake due to hartals.
"Even thought the separatists have often been criticized for their doublespeak, they continue to make fool of people of Kashmir," said a social activist.
