Udhampur attack: arrested Pak militant brought to Jammu | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report kishtwar, Aug 10: After taking over investigation into August 5 Udhampur terror attack, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) has brought the arrested Pakistani militant Usman Khan from Srinagar to Jammu and lodged him in the joint interrogation center. While Usman was kept in Srinagar for three days, the NIA managed to arrest few of his Valley-based supporters, but many of his associates, mostly Pakistani militants, are still on the run, sources told Early Times. They said Usman, during the course of investigation, tried to hoodwink the agencies by giving conflicting and contrasting statements. "Despite his diverting tactics to buy time so that his associates in J&K could shift their hideouts, the NIA investigation is on the right track," said sources. They said that reports of differences between NIA and the state police over handling of the case are incorrect and both the organisations are on same page as far as tackling terror is concerned. "J&K police is fully cooperating in the investigation," said sources. They said the supporters of Usman Khan presently in police custody are being interrogated in Srinagar, and if need arises, some of the arrested persons will be shifted to Delhi along with Usman for scientific tests. "We are collaborating the series of events and are moving ahead with its investigation. We are keeping all options open" said NIA sources, adding that they are waiting for the official confirmation from the army whether the information provided by the arrested militant regarding his infiltration into Kashmir valley by breaking the LoC fence is right or wrong. "Only army will tell whether the fence at border through which Usman claims that he along with his associate infiltrated into Kashmir has broken or not. In case the fence was intact, Usman then might have arrived in J&K via Nepal or any other route. It will be a matter of investigation," said sources. It is pertinent to mention that the investigation by NIA so far revels the hand of Talah Sayeed, son of India's most wanted fugitive Hafiz Sayeed. |
