Hafiz Syed, Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon had bigger terror plans | Either a plane was to be hijacked or a passenger bus was to be held hostage to secure Yakoob Memon's release | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 10: Pak national and Lashkar chief Hafiz Syed and 1993 Mumbai blasts accused - Daud Ibrahim and Tiger Memon - who have taken refuge in Pakistan, had bigger terror plans to secure the release of Yakoob Memon, who was on July 30 last hanged to death for his involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks. They were either to hijack a plane from Kashmir or hold hostage passengers of a bus to save Yakoob from the gallows but the plan was changed following his hanging before the sneaking of Pakistani militants into the Indian territory, official sources said, quoting intelligence agencies who are part of the team interrogating Mohammad Naved, the militant who was caught alive after the August 5 terror attack on a BSF bus near Udhampur. A specially trained squad of militants was sent to this side of the border to give final shape to the terror plan. This group was specially trained by Hafiz's son. Pak troops had in the recent past opened heavy volume of fire at multiple points on the IB and the LoC to divert the attention of Indian border troops and facilitate infiltration by the militants of this special squad, sources said. Sources said Hafiz had also discussed his plan with Lashkar command Abu Qasim, who "operates from Kashmir". Abu Qasim had also spoken to Tiger Memon in this regard, the sources added. This information was also passed on to the union home ministry which, in turn, had ordered to further tighten security at the state's three civil airports, sources informed. Naved and Noman, who was shot dead by forces in the August 5 Udhampur encounter, were pushed into the Indian territory from across the LoC in Kashmir, had stayed in the house of two brothers, both employees of Air Force Station, Awantipora. They were to facilitate the entry of the two militants into the airport, sources alleged, saying that a Kashmir businessman had given Rs 5 lakh to Abu Qasim to purchase air tickets for the two militants but the plan was changed later as Yakoob was executed before it could be executed. As per the changed plan, the two militants carried out the August 5 Udhampur attack on a BSF bus. In the July 27 Dinanagar attack, the militants were to hijack a passenger bus but due to the alertness and bravery of its driver, they could not succeed and were later shot dead by forces in a gunbattle. Naved was also said to have told his interrogators that they were tasked to hijack a plane to secure the release of Yakoob Memon and some other militants. He said other details of the plan were known to Noman, who was killed in the Udhampur encounter with forces. Following these revelations made by the captured terrorist and intelligence inputs, security in and around J&K airports had been further strengthened.
