| Scholarship scam: BGSBU students boycott classes, stage protest | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Aug 10: The students of Engineering, Biodiversity and other departments of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri held a protest demonstration after boycotting their classes after the classes started here today after summer vacation and demanded action against all those guilty involved in Scholarship Scam/other financial irregularities. When the university was opened after summer vacations students of Engineering, Biodiversity and other departments here today the students assembled outside administration block after boycotting their classes and demonstrated while demanding action against guilty involved in Scholarship Scam/other financial irregularities which were exposed some three months ago.
Students also expressed their resentment over long silence of Prof IA Hamal, VC of the university over this scam and seek from him what actions till date have been taken by the university administration against the culprits.
Addressing the protesters, student of B.Tech 7th semester Asrar Imityaz, said, "We are framing a 10 member committee with two students from each department, to further carry on our struggle and to take any decision in future and to hold talks with university administration and district administration.
Here it needs to mention that following complaints of some students that their scholarship money has been misappropriated by the BGSBU employees in nexus with an employee of J&K Bank, police has started investigation after lodging a case at Darhal police station on the complaint of J&K Bank branch manager Involved J&K Bank employee was dismissed from service while an employee of BGSBU was placed under suspension and both were arrested by the police. Meantime as names of some senior officials of the university including that of Registrar (also questioned by SIT team and writing samples were sent to FSL) was also figured in this scam some local politicians intervened in the police investigations allegedly to save the erring heads which was resented by members of civil society, students and some social organizations and members of "Sangarsh"NGO. Meanwhile advocate Shokat Ali, vice president "Sangarsh NGO" said that in today's meeting its members have extended their support to the students of BGSBU for their ethical struggle against culprits of the infamous scholarship scam. "We have resolved to go on definite strike from Tuesday and students will take out protest rally from main gate to different departments and if the investigating team (internal) want to talk with students, they will be welcomed but we will not hold any talk with the Registrar as his name has been figured in the scams" said Asrar Imityaz. |
