Creation of Heritage Hotels, Cafes to boost tourism: Hamid Choudhary | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 9: Welcoming the decision of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to reviving opulence of Jammu and Kashmir State's age old heritage places including mansions, palaces by converting them into hotels, cafes and museums, People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Hamid Choudhary today said that this is the best way to preserve cultural assets and promote tourism in a big way. Hamid said that such developments will also give a fillip to private sector and people owning such heritage sites will be able to make money as well as create enough employment opportunities for youth. He said State's such assets will also be best utilized to promote tourism and preserve our culture. This will also enable our state to showcase art, culture, handicraft, cuisine and music which it is known for. Another feather in the cap is roping in of Rajasthan-based Indian Heritage Hotels Association (IHHA) which will help J&K convert its heritage property into remunerative and productive assets. There are several other tourism sites enroute Mughal Road, Kashmir, Ladakh, Doda, Bani Basohli, Poonch and Rajouri besides Bhaderwah which can also be developed. While in Kashmir Houseboats and old houses can be developed into Heritage sites some age old Havelis and mansions in old city of Jammu and other areas also possess immense tourism potential, Choudhary Hamid said adding that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has very timely and rightly taken a great initiative towards this end. He however hoped that government will partially fund these projects so that people are able to maintain the real essence of their glorious past. |
