Samba Aug 10: The successive governments have failed to connect a cluster of villages situated on the other side of Basantar River which is infamous for flash flood and creating havoc in downstream areas but the people and students from dozen villages in Samba are forced to cross the river on a daily basis while risking their lives.
The population of over ten villages including Amli, Taloor, Madkoli, Sankah, Gujwal, Ned, Dub, Chak, Kaloya and Kupri and the students have been facing several difficulties to cross the river Basantar in absence of the bridge which the successive governments have failed to construct for the cause of people of this area.
"Not the previous but the recent coalition too has failed to construct and propose a bridge over the Basantar river near Dhalote village in Samba, sources said.
"The aged and schoolchildren are the worst sufferers as they have to cross the river to reach school every day, which is quite risky for them. Majority of students cannot attend their school regularly as the river has heavy inflow of water during monsoon, said Krishan Singh, a local villager.
Another local Chet Singh, humming the similar tones that successive governments have failed to come upto the expectations of the people of these villages which are still deprived due road connectivity.
He said, "As there is no bridge and roads for the villages to have connected with nearby areas."
"The students, particularly girls are forced to change uniforms after crossing the river as they cannot go with wet dresses. Carrying school bags and extra dresses in the river has become a tough task for them," he lamented.
Locals also lamented that despite repeated pleas to the public representatives and officials concerned nothing has been done till date and the bridge to the villagers is still a 'distant dream.
