IGNOU Jammu Centre leaves thousands of students in lurch Displays wrong contact number on website for information 8/13/2015 11:23:38 PM Arun Singh Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 13: A premier higher education institute like Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is bringing disrepute for itself by misinforming thousands of students in Jammu region who are either enrolled with the top most distance education providing varsity or want to seek admissions for a particular course. The Jammu regional centre of IGNOU in its official website has given a contact number for getting any admission related inquiry; however, the phone number displayed on the webpage of the centre is ironically the contact number of a 24-hour helpline private service provider with the name and style of 'Just Call'. A large number of students when make inquiry calls on the landline number 0191-2476060, the person attending the calls tell them that this number is simply a 24-hour helpline and has nothing to do with the IGNOU. "When we made call on landline number 0191-2476060 and sought some information related to admission, re-evaluation, we were given reply that they have no such information in this regard and said that they here only provide contact numbers of different establishments, organizations etc.," said some students while narrating their ordeal. When contacted the executive of 'JUST CALL' in this connection, he said "IGNOU has been displaying our helpline number on its official website without our permission for the last three years and we are getting unwanted calls every day. They said that they have contacted the IGNOU many a times and registered our resentment on the deliberate flaw and demanding that number should be deleted from their site but they did nothing," Expressing anger over the nonchalant attitude of the IGNOU, JUST CALL official said "We have been receiving approximately 100-200 calls per day of the students seeking various information of IGNOU. IGNOU is misleading, harassing and mentally torturing the students. Most of the calls we receive belongs to the students from remote districts of Jammu province". The height of non seriousness on the part of IGNOU can be gauged from the fact that, the official number of IGNOU Jammu Centre Phone: 0191-2546529 on its website for facilitating the students making inquiry calls, is not attended by any official despite repeated calls as result students are upset.
