Deserving sports persons ignored; NC, Cong men too included in sports body | Ministers' blue-eyed boys managed it into Sports Council | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 13: A day after State Government re-constituted prestigious Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council (JKSSC) many eye-brows raised over inclusion of some close relatives and loyalists of ministers. Ironically one person namely Rahil Gupta has been appointed as member of this prestigious body from the quota of Sports Journalist. Even one in journalist circle is asking "Who is this Sports Journalist Rahil Gupta?". Which news paper or new agency he belongs?, Which sport event he has covered so far?, Has any journalist working in the field has seen Rahil Gupta?". After thoroughly investigating the entire matter it came to the notice of the media persons that this Rahil Gupta is very close to Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh. Although he is not active in the field and he has covered any sport even on the ground, his only qualification is he is blue-eyed boy of Dr Nirmal Singh. Now time will tell what Rahil Gupta will contribute in the promotion of sports in Jammu and Kashmir. There are many sports reporters in Jammu region who are expert is covering sports but for government no working journalist, especially those who cover sports, deserved to be included in this Council. Similarly Health Minister Lal Singh's brother Rajinder Singh alias Babbi is also nominated as member of the Sports Council. These two are not isolated cases, most of the members of the newly constituted Sports Council have political backing. Not only those who have political backing of BJP or PDP were included in this prestigious body of sports, even some active members of National Conference and Congress have also made it into the Council to work for promoting sports in Jammu and Kashmir. Shockingly some known sportsmen of Jammu region who have earned popularity at national and international level, were ignored by the government. Name of a international player from Jammu was floated for this body but his name was not considered only due to political reasons or infighting within BJP. |
