10 civilians, army soldier injured in twin incidents; 3 booked under PSA | Shopian on edge after spurt in militant acts | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 13: South Kashmir's Shopian District which is on edge these days following injuries to 10 civilians and one soldier in twin incidents, besides slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on three youth in the last 15 days. In two fresh militancy related incidents in last twenty four hours, 10 civilians and one army jawan were injured at two different places while security forces succeeded to defuse another handgrenade this morning. Ten people were injured at around 5.50 am today in Trenz village when a grenade planted outside a local Masjid exploded when people were coming out of it after offering Fajar prayers. The injured included Gh Ahmad Mir (55),Abdul Gani Dar (60),Muhammad Ismail Dar (55),Bashir Ahmad Bhat (50), Nayeem Aijaz Lone (30), Mohd Ashraf Shah (35),Gh Hassan Wani (55), Bilal Ahmad Shah (35),Ghulam Mohd Teli (45), Javid Ahmad Shah (70),while as Bashir Ah Bhat son of Muhammad Ismail Bhat , Naeem Ijaz Lone son of Ghulam Muhammad , Ghulam Ahmad Mir son of Nabir Mir, Bilal Ahmad Shah son of Muhammad Ashraf received serious injuries and were referred to SMHS Srinagar. In another incident this morning, security forces defused one unexploded handgrenade in Pehlipora village after locals informed police. The grenade was lying outside the residence of an active militant, according to police sources. One Army jawan was also critically injured on Wednesday in a militant Ambush in Voterpora village when militants attacked a patrolling party of 44 RR and managed to flee. According to the Deputy Commissioner Shopian three boys were booked under PSA in last fortnight. However, according to sources, the trio namely Saboor Ahamd Mall of Pehlipora, Muhammad Yousuf Padder of Hef-Shirmaal and Rayees Ahmad Dar of Barbugh were booked under PSA for giving shelter to militants in their houses. With the abrupt surge in militancy, Shopian is on the edge. Sources said that besides other outfits, Hizbul Mujahideen is engaged in the area to motivate youth to join their ranks and added that in last 20 days at least on three occasions militants managed to give slips to security forces after engaging them in brief gun battles including one in Dobijan area on Mughal Road. According to officials, there are more local militants active in nearby Pulwama and Kulgam Districts of South Kashmir than Shopian, but, according to sources, Shopian is turning out to be a safe place for militants to attack security forces. |
