Early Times Report
BHADERWAH, Aug 13: A year on the authorities have failed to construct a bridge on Thara Mohalla Nullah in main Bhaderwah town which connects half a dozen wards with each other.
Presently in absence of this foot bridge people have to go to Masjid Mohalla to cross to other side by using the main bridge and then to come back to their respective places that has become a time consuming processes and added financial burden on the poor people. This foot bridge was also used by the motorcyclists and especially by students thus saving their precious time.
Residents of the area alleged that even after nine months, the authorities concerned have failed to reconstruct the bridge and more than 2000 people are facing problems daily. There seems to be no end to the woes of Bhaderwah residents as there has been no footbridge over the Thara Mohalla Nullah for the past one year. The authorities calmed that the paucity of funds is the reason for the delay in the reconstruction of the crucial foot bridge.
The work to replace the 100-year-old wooden bridge started last year, when it was dismantled by the authorities after declaring it "unsafe" for pedestrians, but owing to the paucity of funds the work is yet to be completed.
The residents, students, government employees and court staff are in distress and claimed that they have to travel half a kilometre on foot each day to reach important places like hospital, court, schools and tehsil office in the town."The matter has been taken up several times with the district administration and concerned authorities but due to their casual approach the inhabitants of the area have been suffer lot," said Shokat Ganai a local of Haveli Mohalla , Bhaderwah. Naseer Mehboob Padder , a local resident, said, "Students are facing great hardships because of long distance. The bridge was the lifeline of the residents of the area as it connected Khakhal Mohalla , Haweli Mohalla , Dhram Pura with Thara Mohalla , Qilla Mohalla , Masjid Mohalla and other wards and half population of Haweli Mohlla . Hundreds of students, office employees, teachers and others used the bridge for their daily routine. They often reach school late because of long distance. At present, to reach these roads, people have to take an extra journey after crossing another bridge at near Jamia Masjid Bhaderwah .The bridge also served as the shortest route for those having two wheelers. We want the bridge to be built early so that they can reach their schools and tuition centers easily.
"Despite making a number of pleas to the officials concerned nothing has been done to reconstruct these bridges," he said. Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Bhupinder Kumar said, "We are completely aware of the problem people are facing owing to the absence of footbridge. We have completed all formalities, including inviting tenders, but due to financial crunch there is delay in the construction work."
