For BJP, manifold increase in Jammu's woes is a new chapter in J&K | Message from Kolkata | | ET Report Jammu, Aug 13: Senior BJP leader, who on April 24 had declared in Jammu that no power on earth could "snatch AIIMS from Kashmir and it will not be established in Jammu", on Wednesday claimed at far off Kolkata that "a new chapter has begun in the state" after March 1st. He was right. He was right because the BJP empowered Kashmir to exercise plenipotentiary powers to achieve what it had failed to achieve after October 1947. This happened for the first time in 67 years or after the state's accession to India. The BJP not only agreed to maintain politico-constitutional status in the state but also gave the power to Kashmir to create a situation there leading to involvement of Pakistan and Hurriyat in the dialogue process and resolution of the Kashmir issue as per the Vajpayee's "Kashmiriyat, Insaniyat and Jamhooriyat" doctrine. The said BJP leader from Jammu was also right when he claimed that a new chapter has begun in the state after March 1, 2015. He was right because it was for the first time in 67 years that there was no opposition left in the sensitive border state after the BJP diluted its stand on Jammu & Kashmir and discarded its ideology to became part of the establishment. The BJP is part of the government and playing the role of B-team like the Congress played the role of B-Team after 1974, barring a very brief spell between November 2, 2005 and July 7, 2008. But more than that, the said BJP leader was also right when he claimed what he claimed at Kolkata, where he also hailed the role, contribution and sacrifice of Syama Prasad Mookerjee after withholding the truth that what the BJP did in Jammu & Kashmir to get some loaves and fishes of office was what Mookerjee had all along vehemently opposed. Indeed, the entry of the BJP into the state power structure has opened a new chapter in the political history of Kashmir. It has turned out to be a boon for Kashmir in the sense that there is hardly anyone in the state's political arena who could oppose what has been happening in Kashmir for months now. Believe it or not, but it is a fact that Kashmir wants the BJP to remain part of the power structure as it helps it achieve its sinister agenda and further consolidate its hold over Jammu region and Ladakh. For the people of Jammu region, the entry of BJP into the state power structure also means the opening of a new chapter but in another sense. A new chapter in the sense that it is for the first time in 67 years that Jammu region has negligible representation in the state cabinet; it is for the first time that Jammu has no control over any department with political weight and considerable funds; it is for the first time that Jammu region has no say in the internal-security-related matters; it is for the first time that the people of Jammu region have organized not one but three massive bandhs on April 24, May 27 and between July 31 and august 5, two massive candlelight protest marches on June 5 and July 27 and one a historic Lalkar Rally on July 25 against the BJP; it is also for the first time that sitting ministers and MLAs (all from the BJP) themselves visited the bazaars of Jammu to force the shopkeepers to open their shops but with no success; it is also for the first time that BJP MLAs had to face the people's wrath in Jammu during the days of bandh; it is also for the first time that the agitating people of Jammu region accused the BJP of "betraying the Jammu mandate, cheating them and playing foul games with them"; it is also for the first time that the police force had to swung into action to protect the BJP headquarter in Jammu, Pt Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan; and so on. The statement of the BJP leader that "a new chapter has begun in the state after" the BJP became part of the government needs to be viewed in this context. |
