Jammu, Aug 13: Confusion has climaxed in Jammu once again over establishment of AIIMS with administration and Opposition including the AIIMS CC taking conflicting positions over the issue. While Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simarandeep Singh in a meeting on Wednesday directed Revenue authorities to identify land for establishement of the AIIMS, State Congress threatened to take the agitation for AIIMS in Jammu to Delhi. Panthers party has already been agitating at Jantar Mantar in Delhi , many believe it is a desperate bid by the party to keep afloat.
AIIMS coordination committee, an amalgamation led by Bar association and Chamber of commerce, which is spearheading the movement had just suspended its agitation till Independence day, while work in courts continues to remain suspended till date. The confusion has been proliferated by a letter of a secretary level officer in the Union Ministry for Health, addressed to secretary in the department of Health and Medical Education J&K, wherein the former has asked the government to identify suitable land in both Jammu and Srinagar for establishment of AIIMS. The letter that was circulated on social media asserts government's stand, which is however open to individual interpretation. While AIIMS CC has been insisting on a clear cut order from the Union Health Ministry, BJP maintains that the letter of the secretary is vindication of government's decision to establish AIIMS in Jammu as well. Meanwhile BJP's 'Dhanyavaad rally' and hoardings of thanks giving across the city have further added on to the prevailing confusion.
"Where is the order?" questioned a member of the AIIMS CC when asked if the agitation would be resumed. "What is keeping the union government from issuing a clear notification in this regard if their intentions are clear?" he asked. A senior BJP leader however, accused the AIIMS CC of playing in the hands of Congress. "How can a secretary of the government write to the state government for identifying land if it did not propose to set up AIIMS in Jammu as well?" he said, admitting failure on part of the party leadership in taking people of Jammu into confidence over the issue and also in effectively countering the onslaught of the Opposition and AIIMS CC.
Meanwhile, Cityites are apprehensive of resumption of agitation that had forced 5-day bandh in entire Jammu region just before it was suspended. People are calling relatives and their journalist friends to confirm if the strikes and shutdowns would resume after independence day as assured by the AIIMS CC.
