I-Day celebrations: Jammu turns into fortress as 20 companies of ITBP, CRPF, JKP deployed

Jammu, Aug 13: Keeping in view the warning sounded by the Intelligence Agencies regarding possible infiltration for blow to the Independence Day celebrations, besides spurt in incidents of violence particularly in the Kashmir Valley a foolproof security arrangements have been made by the police with deployment of the 20 companies of JKAP,ITBP,CRPF and district police to secure enhanced security grid. After August 5 Udhampur terror attack, the security forces are on tenterhooks and maintaining vigil in every district to foil any nefarious design of anti-national elements. "Situation along international border is tense due to frequent ceasefire violations and intelligence reports saying militants may attempt to infiltrate into the region to disrupt peace especially on Independence Day," intelligence sources here today said.
Sources maintained the state police in assistance with army and para-military forces, are on job and have strengthened the security grid to keep watch on any unwanted and suspicious movement.
"People in the bordering hamlets have been asked to remain alert and vigilant and inform the police on seeing any suspicious activity," source added.
Meanwhile after the Udhampur attack on August 5, the rumours of militants abducting civilians in remote belts of mountainous districts have also kept police and security forces on tenterhooks.
"Messages flashed on various social sites regarding abduction of civilians in remote belts across Jammu region has not only kept forces on tenterhooks but also created fear psychosis among the populace," a senior police official here said.
"With Independence day approaching nearer, trouble mongers trying to disrupt the peace by spreading such rumours but they are under scanner and will be dealt as per law," he added.
Meanwhile when contacted DIG Jammu Kathua range Ashkoor Wani said that in view of recent spurt of attacks, the security arrangements have been reviewed wherein instruction have been passed to the officers to keep vigil.
He added that all the nakas have been made alert in Jammu, Samba and Kathua besides keeping watch hawk eye on the grounds movements in and around the venues of I-Day celebrations.
SP Railways Suram Singh when contacted said that the officers have been asked to provide all viable assistance to public especially forAugust 15 and ongoing Shri Amar Nath Yatra and be polite with public but firm with duties.
It was also instructed that jawans to be prepared to retaliate a threat in case of emergency.
