Early Times Report
SUNDERBANI, Aug 13: Contrary to the tall claims of the government of taking steps to improve quality of education in government schools, several schools in the state are still understaffed.
It is worth mentioning here that the School Education Department has recently appointed new teachers in schools of Rajouri district but the people of Village Rugga of tehsil Sunderbani, who had high hopes that their Government Middle School would be provided adequate teaching staff, had to eat a humble pie as only one new teacher was deputed there.
Protesting against this, the people locked the school and held a protest demonstration.
Talking to Early Times, Naib Sarpanch Marchola Mohd Ismail said that there are 106 students belonging to poor families studying in Government Middle School Rugga, however, there are only three teachers posted, out of which one joined recently.
Chief Education Officer Rajouri had promised to appoint three more teachers including one of Urdu background but we were cheated since just one teacher was provided to the school.
All the students studying here have Urdu as their second language but the school is without any Urdu teacher, he added.
ZRP Gulshan Raina tried to pacify the agitators by conveying a message from ZEO Lower Hathal OP Sharma that two Urdu teachers have been deployed for Middle School Rugga but the people wanted a written assurance that these teachers would remain in the school for the full session.
After ZEO's assurance people opened the locks and allowed the school to run. Village Education Committee, Chairman, Farooq Ahmed and a social activist, Mohd Yakoob alleged that the administration has attached Headmaster of the school to ZEO office where he is officiating as a clerk. The result is that poor children are facing hardships and are being deprived of right to education.
They said that the locals approached the concerned MLA, MLC and officials of the School Education department in this regard on several occasions but every time they were deceived with false assurances.
