11 infiltration attempts since May: GoC 15 Corps | '40 local militants active in Valley' | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 13 : Stating that the infiltration attempts by militants were marginally on a higher side this year, Kashmir's top army commander Thursday said that since May the militants from across the LoC made at atleast 11 attempts this year to sneak into this side. "There is increase in the intensity of militant activities, but our counter insurgency grid is robust enough to face any challenge. And it is because of the little increase in the reports of movements by the militants that there is increase in the number of encounters," said Lt Gen Subrata Saha, GOC 15 Corps, talking to reporters on the sidelines of a seminar organised by Army at Chema-i-Shahi. He said that one of the reasons behind the increase in attempts of infiltration was the low snowfall this year. "There are also certain periods when you see the intensity of incidents of militant attacks increases," he said. Lt Gen Saha, however, said that there was nothing like a trend of educated youth picking up guns. 'Yes the local recruitment in militants ranks as per our reports in 2015 is about 30-40 boys, which is lower that of 2014 which was 64c local boys," he said. He added that it was also not right to hyphenate entire South Kashmir as a recruiting ground for fresh militants. "It is actually a belt along the highway from Kakapore to Chandoosa," he said. |
