Coordination Committee meet postponed at eleventh hour
Panel has not met since March 26

Srinagar, Aug 17 : The PDP-BJP coordination committee meeting, scheduled for today, was postponed at the eleventh hour, as the members from PDP were not available because of their other engagements. "Yes, the coordination committee was scheduled for today in Srinagar. All members from BJP side were available, but the members from PDP were busy with other engagements. So the meeting could not happen," a BJP member of the committee, Shamsher Singh Manhas (MP) told newsmen.
The 10-member coordination committee, headed by the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, had an important agenda for today's meeting owing to the fact that the committee has not met since March 26. The meeting assumes significance in view of the prevailing political and security situation in the state. The Coordination Committee will also review the performance of the ministers and besides it will discuss the achievements, the works done in past months, immediate priorities, security arrangements and various other issues.
Sources said that the agenda of the meeting includes taking stock of the developmental activities initiated by the government in all the three regions of the state, prevailing political and security situation in the state, particularly in Kashmir, and also the discussion on the 'Agenda of Alliance.' Sources also said that apart from discussions on performance of the government, filling up of vacancies in various departments, the coordination committee would also discuss steps required to further improve working of the Government.
Besides Nirmal Singh, a 10-member Coordination Committee comprises of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, BJP state chief Jugal Kishore, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, Shamsher Singh, Tariq Hamid Karra (all MPs), ChoudharyLal Singh, Abdul RehmanVeeri, Chewing Dorjee and Naeem Akhter (ministers in the PDP-BJP coalition government).
Sources in the PDP confirmed that the party's members of the Coordination Committee had some other engagements.
Meanwhile, State Cabinet is meeting on Wednesday after a long gap. AfterMay 18 - when PDP-BJP government held its first cabinet meeting in Srinagar - no such meeting has been convened since. "During this period, only three urgent proposals including the new recruitment policy and appointment of PSC chairman and members were cleared through circulation," they said.
