BJP fails nationalism test in Poonch | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 17: The BJP, which claims to be championing the cause of nationalism failed in Poonch. None of the senior leaders of the party deemed it fit to visit the border villages in the Poonch worst affected by the firing. The Central leadership of the party has also not made any effort to visit them nor has it issued a statement, which resounds the sentiments and concern of the people. Even after three-days, the BJP leaders have not deemed it fit to go to the Poonch and visit the areas where six people have been killed. The party leaders have just confined themselves to the Jammu city or its peripheral areas. The Deputy Chief Minister though visited the GMC where injured are being treated. The BJP faulted at a time when the PM Modi is on a visit to the UAE a Muslim nation and all the dead belonged to that community. "The visit of the BJP ministers could have send the signal that the party is serious in not only sharing the pain of the people affected by the firing but it should also send the message that it doesn't discriminate on any basis and it should help in gaining the confidence of the Muslims which the party badly needs and the PM is trying hard for it but the state unit of the party faulted on this account, and it could prove to its costly mistake," said a senior BJP functionary. According to party sources, the matter about the absence of the BJP ministers from the Poonch area, which is politically very important for the BJP. "Poonch is politically very important for the party. It's only district from where party has not won any seat. It borders Kashmir but there is no streak of separatism despite the efforts of the separatists and from actors across the border. The insensitivity of the party could undo its larger game plan," said a senior party functionary. |
