Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 17: The concerned people have finally acknowledged that "the people of Jammu region committed a grave blunder by voting for the BJP in the last Assembly elections" and opined that "the BJP is a party that has turned out to be a boon for Kashmiri separatists and Kashmiri parties". "The people of Jammu region will be left with no other option but to migrate from the region to other parts of the country in case they failed to form a new regional party with a nationalistic outlook," they opined. "Formation of a regional party with a nationalistic outlook at the earliest in Jammu region has become absolutely necessary if the people here are to survive as Indian nationals and lead a dignified and peaceful life," they opined, and added "there is no other alternative left for the people of Jammu region".
This was the general view of the people with whom this correspondent interacted on the Independence Day and a day after. This correspondent interacted with score of persons drawn from different walks of life to ascertain their views on the conduct of the BJP and its attitude towards Pakistan and scourge of terrorism. Not a single person spoke a good word about the BJP. Instead, all poured venom on the BJP and condemned it, saying that "it was compromising the Indian stand on Jammu & Kashmir" and "treading a path that would not only help Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists achieve their age-old design on the state, but would create a situation in the Jammu region similar to the one the nation witnessed in Kashmir in early 1990, when the miniscule minority of Kashmiri Hindus quit their homes and hearths leaving behind their properties, including business establishments, houses, orchards, agricultural fields and what not".
"The BJP is power hungry and for retaining control over power it got with the help of the people of Jammu region, it can go to any extent," they further told this correspondent, and added that " the BJP, it appears, has made up its mind to make New Delhi withdraw from Jammu & Kashmir in its desperate bid to purchase peace in the region, which is not going to happen, as the aim of Pakistan is not only to annex the state but also wave the Pakistani flag at the red Fort".
Most of the interviewees also came down heavily on the BJP leader, who is number two in the State Government, saying he, like others in the BJP, is more interested in the loaves and fishes of office than in peace in the state. They ridiculed the Independence Day statement of this leader that Pakistan was playing all tricks to destabilize the State Government and said that only "such a greedy person could make such a ridiculous statement". "The Pakistan wants this Government of which the BJP is a party to continue, as it has helped it to organize anti-India activities in the Valley with utmost ease," they said, and added that "the BJP is systematically weakening the national resolve by condoning all the crimes of the Indian enemies" and "by blaming the media for blowing things out of proportion".
"Pakistan has been bleeding the nation with a thousand-cut on a daily basis and doing everything to promote its break-India agenda through terror tactics. Its single point agenda is to annex Jammu & Kashmir at any cost and all of its activities are aimed at engineering anti-India protests in Kashmir and cause migration in Jammu region so that a Kashmir-like situation is created in this region. But we have in the state a party, called BJP, which has described the spurt in ceasefire violations, bombardment and the Pakistan-sponsored reign of senseless brutalities as a conspiracy being hatched by Islamabad to destabilize the coalition Government of which the BJP is the part," they also said.
The upshot of their whole formulations was that now is the time for the people of Jammu region to dumb the BJP and similar other Kashmir-centric outfits and found their own party to defend themselves, to defend and promote their own cause and defeat the evil designs of Pakistan and Kashmiri parties. They did make a point. There is no doubt that the BJP has failed in Jammu and damaged it and the national cause and there is other party worth its name which they can trust. Jammu people do need a regional party. It is time for all the well-wishers of the people of Jammu region and the country to come out of their respective political parties and form a party like the various leaders belonging to different political parties in Telangana did to get the status of statehood for their region.
