Govt Sponsored Schemes elude 150 underprivileged families forced to live in open

Kathua, Aug 17: In an apparent case that central and state sponsored schemes for the welfare of underprivileged people still eludes many of them in District Kathua atleast 150 families from particular section of society living at Dinga Amb (Kathua) still are forced to live in miserable condition reasons better known to concerned department.
Despite having AAY cards these unfortunate souls have been deprived of benefit of various welfare schemes being launched for such poor families at Dinga Amb and are forced to do menial jobs to earn their livelihood.
These families live in broken temporary houses and alleged on government to voluntarily ignore their sufferings.
People from a slum like locality known as SC Basti, Mangloor Panchayat have stood up against the authorities and demanded for permanent houses under Indira Gandhi Awas Yojna, (IAY) but nothing has been done till date after several assurance form concerned officials.
Ironically people belonging to particular section of society of SC Mohalla Magloor Panchyat still are forced to live in open as their shanty type houses collapsed or got damaged in recent rainy season. "Government continually is ignoring such locality and left people on their own, some of people of locality alleged.
There are several other Central and State sponsored schemes too including Indira Awas Yojna, (IAY) central sponsored scheme through which government offers provision to build houses of down trodden section and inhabitants of SC Mohala even fall under Below Poverty Line (BPL) in Antyodaya Anna Yojna AAY category but still are deprived of this facility.
Radha Rani, a house wife said most of the villagers belong to labourer class are unable to construct concrete houses at their own due to their poor economic status. She said their temporary mud houses have been broken down in incessant rains and added that people lived in miserable condition in open. She sought financial assistance from government under IAY.
Another inhabitant of this slum locality Kanti Devi said BJP leaders had ensured to reform the status in election campaigns but nobody asked our grievances thereafter.
When contacted to ACD Dr Sunil Sharma (KAS), said Rural Development Department (RDD) has conducted surveys and identified BPL families for IAY scheme. He further ensured to identify people of SC Basti Magloor where due attention will be given on such Basti for implementation of developmental schemes.
