Respite for Balakote, shelling continues in Poonch sector

Mendhar, Aug 17: After shelling from across the border for more than 24 hours, Balakote gained a reprieve, but Sabzian and Mandi sectors in Poonch district came under heavy
shelling.Mohammad Khursheed, Sarpanch of upper Dharglown said that Health Minister's claims to serve the people at their doorsteps stand exposed, as victims of ceasefire violation in Balakote lost their lives due to non- availability of essential life saving treatment.
At least two Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and more than five Sub Health Centre (SHC) are situated in the area but surprising these health institutions have lack of proper staff, sans medicines. "Six civilians were killed and dozens were injured in Balakote as Pakistan intensified unprovoked mortar shelling along the Line of Control, in which two or three died on spot but the others who critical injured were died in absence of treatment. It was very astoundingly that state government has established around dozen of health institution in along the LoC but same has failed to provide required staff, medicines", he rued. They said that when a shell hit the vehicle of Sarpanch Karamat Hussain he died on spot but Abdul Rehman who succumbed to injuries was shited to PHC Dharaglown but there was no medicine to be administered to him. "If the health institution have essential medicines then we have to save the life of injured", he said, adding that yesterday people of Balakote protest against Block Medical Officer (BMO) after that they forwarded to few medicines to these health institutions.
They further said that in cross firing huge numbers of cattle were injured but surprising district administration yet not sent the team of Animal Husbandry. People urged Chief Minister Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed to direct district administration to provide immediate relief to those affected families. In charge Additional Deputy Commissioner, Poonch Shafiq Ahmed accepted and said that he will discussed such matter with Deputy Commissioner Poonch, also initiate an inquiry about the poor health facilities of this area.
