Local alleged PMGSY failure, women protest over dilapidated condition of Gathi-Gorakha road | | | Mohd Majid Malik Early Times Report Bhaderwah, AUG 17: Alleging Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) an utter failure to fulfill its aims in Bhaderwah and its adjoining areas, the women hailing from Gorakha and adjoining areas today staged protest against the depleted conditions of roads in these areas. It may be mentioned here that the Central government had launched PMGSY in the year 2000 to connect the rural areas with population of more than 250 with all weather roads. According to the guidelines of the PMGSY these roads are supposed to complete within nine to 12 months. Ironically people in remote Bhaderwah alleged that several roads that were sanctioned between 2006 and 2009 are yet to be completed. People also questioned on the quality of PMGSY roads being constructed in the whole Bhaderwah constituency. Agitated over delay in dream project, some aggrieved village women raising slogans against the PMGSY authorities and the official monitoring the projects the protested here today in Bhaderwah. Protesting women from Grokha- Bhaderwah alleged that a PMGSY road, being constructed to their villages Gorakha from Gathi Morch which but 11 kms stretch was abandoned about 6 months back reasons better known to concerned. Led by Panch Gorakha Bimla Devi, the protestors blamed the authorities for negating their miseries due to poor road connectivity and said that after some cutting work just to give impression of work in on the authorities left the work halfway. They also alleged due to cutting of rock field in the area land sliding was triggered which resultantly blocked a portion of road but PMGSY higher ups are in deep slumber. Meanwhile Sarpanch of area alleged that villagers are not aware of the fate of this road, funds utilized and swindled by the agency officials and contractors. "For the last six months nobody tells them about the fate of this road and the villagers have been left to suffer."The construction work on the road too has been stopped, he said adding, "despite repeated pleas to higher officials of the agency to accelerate the work but all in vain.' He demanded that erring government officials monitoring the PMGSY projects, contractors and construction companies in inordinate delay in construction of Roads under this project should be held responsible and should be dealt with stern action so that these rural roads be completed in time and serve the purpose. Anju Devi a woman leader of Gorakha, Bhaderwah said around thousands families reside in one dozen villages but due to lackadaisical approach of the officials, people are deprived of basic amenities in the want of due road connectivity and have to trek several miles on foot to reach main town. The protesting villagers warned the authorities to start work on this road within week and remove the landslides, failing which they would launch indefinite dharna in front of PMGSY Executive Engineer Doda. "Due to immense delay in completion of projects and bad conditions of all roads and greatest irony is that the construction of many rural roads has not ended even after 7 years," they alleged. Among others who spoke on the occasion included Pooja Kour, Kalyana Devi, Rja Devi, Kami Devi, Rishta Devi and Kailasho Devi. When contacted the Minister for Roads & Buildings Altaf Bukhari said that State Government has taken up several initiatives to speed up the work under the program."He will look into the matter of PMGSY road Gathi Morch to Gorakha and action under law will be taken," he said. |
