Vendors dangerously encroach NH at Lakhanpur

Kathua, Dec 10: Footpath meant for pedestrians at National Highway at gate way of Jammu & Kashmir Lakhanpur, Hatli Morh Kalibari, Dayalachak, Hiranagar have been completely encroached by vendors, threatening road safety at the busy highway. A large number of pedestrians have been injured in mishaps recently , but Municipal Committees of these areas act like mute spectator and indirectly back the encroachment in the middle of the towns.
It is relevant to mention here that thousands of commuters enter the state every day , trucks for the purpose of getting clarification from Excise & Taxation department cover entire road wherein vendors and shopkeepers who display their items outside the shops causes major accidents. Man Mohan Sharma, a local, said footpath meant for pedestrians have been entirely covered. Administration must take serious step against encroachment and vacate the area for commuters. Ravi Salaria said Pedestrians got major injuries due to encroachment in previous years. Footpath must be available for pedestrians so there is need to launch strict anti- encroachment drive. Raguveer Singh sought regular check up and strict instructions for shop keepers and vendors. The municipal committee Lakhanpur must speed up its drive and make the path available for commuters. Vinod Sharma, Municipal Committee Lakhanpur made several excuses and said MC Lakhanpur used to vacate footpath and will continue the drive with more intensified way in future too. He said there is need to aware the vendors who must voluntarily vacate the footpath.
