People carry on daily chores amid protest 'dramas' | International Human Rights Day | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 10: After being cornered from all the sides, separatists in Kashmir are looking for the chances and opportunities to make their presence felt and are trying to make mountain out of a mole hill. Their recent assertion that youth should take up arms indicates that they are desperate to vitiate the peace and want to keep the pot boiling at any cost. On the occasion of International Human Rights Day on Thursday separatists organized seminars, rallies and hunger strikes to show that they exist and they have not given up. The militant turned so-called Gandhian Yasin Malik sat on a token hunger strike in the summer capital to attract the attention of people and the media. He ensured that he makes headlines by threatening that situation is all set to take an ugly turn in Kashmir. On the other hand Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq organized a seminar and announced that United Nations is a "failed institution." Malik and Mirwaiz opposed the dialogue process between India and Pakistan and termed it as a futile process. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Separatists have realized that they have been rendered redundant and they don't fit into scheme of things anymore. India has made it clear to Pakistan that it has to choose between New Delhi and separatists. Resumption of Indo-Pak talks and both the countries deciding to carry forward the composite dialogue process has made it clear that Pakistan has made its choice and it has to fall in line to ensure its existence on the world map." He said, "Separatists are now trying to provoke youth to take up the arms to establish a role for the so-called leaders. They are giving provocative statements to send a message to their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) that violence is must for their survival." "In the absence of foreign mercenaries and foreign militants who are not being allowed to cross the LoC by the alert India soldiers, separatists are hoping that local youth would pick up the arms to keep the so-called Kashmir movement alive which during the past 25 years has just nurtured graveyards and nothing else," he added. A police officer while commenting on the rallies and protests, which were staged by separatists today, said, "We could have easily foiled their plans but we didn't do it as we have realized that people don't pay any heed towards these dramas anymore. Despite these people staging protests and assembling at Press Enclave here people carried on with their daily chores." The officer claimed that most of the trouble mongers and the ones who used orchestrate street protests have been put behind bars and are cooling their heels in various jails. Pertinently, separatists have been crying hoarse that youth are being tortured and pushed towards the wall and have been demanding their immediate release. A Kashmir watcher said, "No innocent has been booked or put behind bars. The people who have been arrested are the henchmen of these separatists who used to foment trouble after getting a go ahead from their bosses. Separatists are demanding their hired men and goons should be released so that they can disturb peace and normal life in the Valley." A source said that CID department has blocked the passports of the separatists and them not being allowed to venture out of India has frustrated them. "Most separatists have foreign wives and they used to spend winter months in foreign countries but the decision of the Government of India (GoI) to take stern action against them has foiled their plans," he added. Pertinently, the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani was the first one to make a statement about separatists having failed and it's time for youth to pick up the gun. The Hurriyat dove, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the former militant commander turned so called JKLF chief Yasin Malik have been toeing the same line. |
