Pahalgam tourism bodies resist shifting of TRC | Accuse Shah of legalizing illegal Yanad huts | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report
Anantnag, Dec 10: Several bodies affiliated with Tourism on Wednesday held a protest demonstration at famed tourist destination Pahalgam against tourism department and accused secretary Tourism Farooq Ahmad Shah of legalizing illegal Yanad huts by shifting the 'Tourist Reception Centre'. Reports said that under the banner of coalition of Unions, tourism players held protests against the Tourism department's decision of relocating the Tourist Reception Centre from Main market Pahlgam to Yanad. The protesters marched in Pahalgam town and raised slogans against the department and Secretary Tourism Farooq Ahmad Shah, who is also holding the post of Director Tourism Kashmir. They signed a representation, urging and requesting the Tourism department and government to revisit its decision. Protesters submitted the memorandum to SDM Pahalgam and CEO Pahalgam Development Authority. The officials, according to Mushtaq Pahalgam who was leading the protesters, assured them that they will bring the issue into the notice of higher-ups within three days. The protesters threatened that if the department failed to act, they will launch a wide agitation in Pahalgam against the government. "Relocating the Tourist Reception Centre from main market Pahalgam to Yanad 5 km down Pahalgam will not only affect adversely the livelihood of Pahalgam residents but will also legalize the illegally constructed huts and hotels at Pahlagam at yanad," Mushtaq Pahalgami said. Early Times has also learnt from its reliable sources that few hoteliers including influential Son-in-Law of former health minister who constructed three hotels at Yanad in violation of High Court PIL has allegedly pursued Secretary Tourism to shift the Tourist Reception Centre from Pahalgam to Yanad. Pertinently, Politicians, Top bubus, police officials have constructed huts and hotels at Yanad despite the area was brought under the ambit of Pahalgam Development Authority after court noticed that land mafia shifted its focus to Yanad. Sources said that majority of the huts and hotels were constructed illegally by the influential people in league with Pahalgam Development authority. Interestingly, then CEO Pahalgam Development Authority Mohd Yousf Bhat who was declared deadwood and shunted out by the government, had sealed 28 huts and hotels at Yanad. |
