Civil Secretariat wears deserted look as Ministers stay away | | | Kunal Shrivatsa
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 10: Though the 'Darbar' has moved to the winter capital of the state and began formal functioning here since November 9 last, the customary buzz associated with the 'highest seat of power' was nowhere to be seen on Thursday since most of the cabinet ministers did not attend their offices for various reasons. After visiting the Civil Secretariat, one could easily sense the lack of usual hustle-bustle associated with it. With most of the ministers preferring to stay away from their office chambers at the Civil Secretariat, the highest seat of power wore a deserted look which was quite visible as the parking lots earmarked for the official vehicles of the VVIPs were unoccupied and most of the area within the complex was empty. Ministers of the PDP-BJP coalition government remained unavailable since they had to be present at 'other important assignments' over and above attending their official coursework. According to highly placed sources, most of the senior ministers were out of town to either take part in official or other important functions. "The Civil Secretariat wore a deserted look as majority of senior cabinet ministers skipped office on Thursday due to which the official work concerning to particular departments came to a grinding halt," said sources. "As the Ministers were unavailable several people who wish to redress their matters pending before different government departments functional at the Civil Secretariat had to face disappointment since the absence of some senior ministers became a big impediment in carrying out the routine official work," they added. Sources further said that several ministers including the Chief Minister were pre-occupied in other engagements due to which they could not attend their offices. "While Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was busy in chairing meetings with Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group and J&K Wakf Board at Srinagar, his other cabinet colleagues were also out of the Civil Secretariat for one reason or the other," said sources. "Horticulture Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri was in Anantnag to visit Khiram Hazratbal shrine where as the Minister for Transport Abdul Gani Kohli was busy attending a high level meet on Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electrical Vehicles convened by Union Ministry for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises at New Delhi… Forest Minister Bali Bhagat had to attend inaugural function of a 3-day long National level Under-19 Girls Mega Sports event hosted by MHAC School, Nagbani Jammu," sources added. The visitors at the Civil Secretariat have no other option but to make rounds to the highest seat of power over and over again as the official machinery is almost dysfunctional due to the non-availability of the ministers. "The list of ministers missing from Civil Secretariat goes on further with the Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu attending a national level seminar at Srinagar while his colleague Agriculture Minister Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura was in Udhampur to inaugurate Cocoon Auction Market Complex at Cherry," said sources. "Education Minister Nayeem Akhtar was also away at Srinagar and Minister for Public Works Sayed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari was in Poonch to inaugurate a bridge there," they added. |
