Asiya Naqash first passed LLB, then BA! | 'Munna Bhai MBBS of PDP' | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 10: In utter embarrassment for the ruling PDP, it has been learned that its MLA for Hazratbal constituency in Srinagar and MoS Social Welfare Department Asiya Naqash, while submitting her nomination papers for 2014 Assembly elections had mentioned that she had passed B.A. in 1996 and LLB in 1992 from Kashmir University. A copy of the affidavit submitted by Naqash reveals that she, without fixing the grave mistake, had submitted her nominations papers which were accordingly accepted in the Deputy Commissioner's office here. "This may be a mistake as the candidates are always in a hurry during elections. However, the officials should have rechecked the affidavit which I think was also a mistake on their part," a PDP leader said while defending Naqash who is now being sneering at on social media. Naqash bagged 12,542 votes and defeated her nearest rival of NC, Muhammad Sayeed Akhoon, who secured only 9,834 votes from Hazratbal Assembly constituency of Srinagar. The name of the PDP candidate, according to court affidavit, was written as 'Asiea' while her educational qualification has been shown as B.A. (1996) and Bachelor of Law (1992). The erroneous affidavit is now-a-days making rounds on Facebook and WhatsApp with users making impertinent comments like "Munna Bhai MBBS of PDP". A top PDP leader wishing anonymity said the Education Minister, rather than verifying the credentials of ReTs, should re-examine the officials who have been elevated on top posts by previous Governments without authenticating as to whether they are entitled for these posts or not. "No doubt the Minister has, without checking the affidavit, submitted it, but what about the officials who without perusing the same accepted it," he said and demanded re-examination of all officials posted at DC Office Srinagar. The PDP leader said that Naqash besides having excellent educational background "is a sincere leader who has always come to the expectations of people and party as well." |
