Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 21: The lackluster approach of the state Government to provide timely employment to the qualified Bachelor of Dental Surgeon (BDS) for years together is snow-balling the number of unemployed doctors, putting them into metal stress and wastages of their technical knowhow for their no fault despite acute requirement in the hospitals located in peripheries of the state.
Sources told Early Times that after 2008 no posts of BDS have been advertised by the Government with the result about 2000 BDS trained doctors are languishing for employment with no hope of their early possibility of earning livelihood and to reap the benefits of training for which they have incurred lakhs of rupees in the getting training.
"Every year around 300 seats are filled for the training of Bachelor of Dental Surgery and same numbers of students pass out after undergoing rigorous training in the institutions but they are meted out with step motherly treatment from the state government by not absorbing them in jobs and had to face frustration," they alleged.
They further said that there are umpteen numbers of such qualified BDS which are without job for the last six years. Ironically like MBBS doctors, these BDS doctors too have to qualify the entrance test which is conducted by Competent Authority of Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) and subsequently qualified aspirants are allotted colleges as per merits.
"Although BOPEE takes same entrance test for the aspirants of MBBS and BDS and had to undergo for same period of training yet BDS are getting second hand treatment from the State Government by not creating jobs which rendered them jobless for years," they said further adding that those students who got private seats had to bear expense of nearly Rs 3 lakh every year including fee and study material for five years, but in vain.
Despite knowing that fact that there is great dearth of doctors in the Primary Health Centers across the state where this lot can be absorbed so that they can provide succor to the patients having dental ailments and can contributing a lot for making the healthy society.
Shockingly, the present dispensation led by People Democratic Party had shown great sympathy with this lot but ever since it has come into the power not policy has been formulated to adjust them so that they can get job and can help to improve degrading health scenario of the state.
