Polytechnic college bends rules to help minister's son | | | Muhammad Mukarram
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 21: In what seems to be a clear case of misuse of power, a junior minister in the PDP-BJP government has secured examination form for his son despite the fact that he did not attend any classes in the college. The son of the Minister of State is a student of civil Engineering in Kashmir Government Polytechnic Srinagar and is in fifth semester of his course. The ministers son has not attended any classes for the fifth semester but only in the sessional examination, however college authorities have provided the final semester examination form to him. "He has been given a nod to go ahead with the final examinations despite the fact that he is short of attendance," sources inside the KGP disclosed. Interestingly, KGP officials told Early Times that under rules he has to be denied permission to sit in the exams, but to create an impression among students that rules are being followed authorities come heavily on other students. "We cannot touch him or try to block him from appearing in exams. His father is a powerful man and none would want to be in his bad books," sources disclosed. They said the college on the contrary declined permission to another student to appear in the exams citing reason that he was falling short of attendance. "The student had undergone kidney surgery and was admitted in SMHS hospital in September and October," sources disclosed. The faculty of the college, according to sources, fear the reprisal from the powerful minister. Pertinent to mention technical education board had already been embarrassed after a Student named Adnan Gilkar committed suicide earlier this year, after being declared fail in Physics paper. After his father applied for revaulation of papers it came to fore that Adnan had passed the paper and was declared failed due to callous approach of the authorities. "The college has become the breeding ground for lackadaisical approach and political patronages," sources said. |
