Jammu, Dec 21: Under political patronage some influential people of Sainik Colony area of Jammu have encroached nallahs' land and same converted into a concrete structures and authority concerned seem unbothered about it so far. These days encroachment of nallah in Jammu city and its adjoining area has become a common spectre which hampering sanitation process and creating havoc for common people.
While entering the Temporary Block of Central University of Jammu, one become familiar with the encroachment of nallah which had encroached by the owner of this building since long time when he was also in power and supported from the some political patronage. Source informed early Times that the proprietor of the building, when he had covered nallah nearly 200 meters, he was the chairman of the Sainik Cooperative House Building Society. "Things didn't stop here, the proprietor using their power, all the leveling works, converting into concrete jungle the expenses were borne by the society itself", said the source.
However, the Jammu Kashmir Water Resource Act 2010, and repeatedly directions by Jammu Kashmir High Court has directed to the authorities concerned (Flood Control department, Urban Environment Engineering Department) to prevent all water bodies, nallahs from encroaching.
"But unfortunately all the authorities rather than taking stern action against violators showing reluctant attitude toward encroachers", said an employee of society on condition of anonymity.
The employee further said that it was not a saga of the single nallah, all the water bodies, nallahs were adjoining to Sainik Colony has been encroaching by the property dealer and influential people.
"The callous approach of the UEED gauged from this fact that the land of playgrounds and those land which are allotted for developing a green strip by the social forestry also encroached and department concerned seems in deep slumber so far", the employee added. |
