4 arrested, 7800 Kg of Lahan, 530 litres of illicit liqour, ors destroyed by Excise deptt | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 21: On the direction of the Minister for Finance, J&K, HaseebDrabu, Excise Commissioner, J&K, T Angchuk and under the active supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner, (Executive), Jammu, Mohammed Shahid Saleem, the Excise Sleuths conducted series of raids in district Kathuaand Bishna area of Jammu district to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liqour. In a press statement issued here, in the process more than more than 7500 Kg of Lahan, 530 litres of illicit liqour, five working stills and 300 locally made pouches of illicit liqour have been destroyed. The raids have been conducted in villages Dhabwal, Tanda, Budhi, Lower SaktaChak and Upper Sakta Chak, Muthikhurd, Khakyal, Parsochak, Shabbachak, Chartyala, Chakdrabkhan, Keengdayal, Maichak, Budhi, Jakhbardambra, Jerraiand adjoining areas of Kathua district. Similar raids have been conducted in different areas of Jammu Division to arrest the menace. In Bishna area two persons have been arrested under section 48 (a) of the J&K Excise Act by the Excise sleuths. Arrested persons have been identified as Rani Devi wife of ManoharLal resident of Sikanderpur and Darinder Kumar son of Gurmeet Lal resident of Saidgarh. In Akhnoor area two persons have been arrested under section 48 (a) of the J&K Excise Act by the Excise sleuths. They have been identified as Kuljeet Kour wife of Jagir Singh resident of Tanda and SawarnKour wife of Nirmal Singh resident of Nardi. In Samba district raids were conducted in Ramgarh area, Tanda and Bruch Tanda and Saowal villages. Meanwhile the Department has also tightened its noose on overcharging and liqour parties being celebrated in different parts of State without obtaining permission from the Excise Department. All the Hotels/ Banquet hall operators have been warned of strict action in case violation is noticed. The Department has initiated multi-pronged strategy to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liqour and overcharging. Inspection teams have been activated and there shall be no laxity for those who violate the law. A naka on Jammu-Kathua national Highway was laid by the Excise sleuths and an amount of Rs. 4750/= was collected as fine from Toll evaders. |
