Royal Theatre of London is my dream for theatre : Kajal | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 2: Kajal Suri, a name synonym with national dramaturgy is one of the leading female theatre director who directs a play in Punjabi, Aur Ek Sacch, authored by renowned playwright Aziz Quereshi scheduled to open Monday at Punjabi Academy, Delhi. One among the female powerful theatre directors in capital, Kajal's directed play is inspired by Ismat Chugtai's Dozakh which she directs under the famous IPTA's Delhi for Women Directors Festival Renowned broadcaster and daughter of veteran journalist, writer, director, producer, theatrist late Vijay Suri, Kajal is Programme Officer in All India Radio, New Delhi since 1996 and a RJ on FM Rainbow India. Talking to Early Times from Delhi, Kajal says her passion for theatre has grown manifold since she left Jammu in 1996 to join AIR. "There has been a flaming spirit in me to enliven a serious drama on stage and for that I have been chasing my theatrical pursuits undeterred. Getting selected as a female director in the prestigious female directors clan is a dream come true for me," she said. She, in her immediate engagement in theatre is all set to bring five full theatrical productions from Delhi, Chandigarh, Ambala and Haryana to Jammu and intends to collaborate with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and couple of Jammu big banners for a seven-day festival to be held at Abhinav theater. "After Women Directors Festival, I will contact Jammu Academy for a collaboration and I am in constant touch with local playwrights in Jammu for a joint theatre festival soon," said Kajal. Kajal whose dream is to hit Royal Theatre of London as her goal destination says, "My passion for theatre would get a quenched feeing if I hit RTL in my life". Recipient of six best actress awards from J&K state Academy, Kajal holds unending list of meritorious awards in Delhi that include "Sur Aradhana" award in 1996 for her contribution to theatre at Siri Fort auditorium, New Delhi, was awarded first prize in Akashwani Annual Awards for producing a feature "Band Kamro Mein Ujle Phool and Certificate of Merit in 2001 Akashwani Annual Awards for the production of feature "Prem Ka Sur Astha Ka Sangeet" on Kashmir's sufi saint poetess Lalleshwari. She was also conferred Certificate of Appreciation for the play "Aur Ek Sacch" in the 7th National Theatre Festival at Punjab Natshala in 2010. |
