Srinagar, Jan 2: The chances of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti assuming charge as the caretaker Chief Minister are getting probable as CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has been asked by his medicos to take rest for now.
At a time when the controversy of the state flag is engulfing the political scenario of the state after the recent High Court order, the governance has taken a back seat in the state. There are also complaints mounting about the civil secretariat witnessing chaos due to the absence of the chief minister.
Another issue being confronted by the coalition is the forthcoming budget session- scheduled to be held on 18th of this month. There are voices being heard that Mehbooba would assume charge of the care taker CM ahead of the coming budget session. On the other hand, sources divulged that due to the hectic schedule of the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the recent past, his health deteriorated, resulting in his hospitalisation at New Delhi wherein till date he is undergoing treatment.
Party insiders stated that in last month, the chief minister had a hectic tour of entire Srinagar city which affected his health to the greater extent. They said that apart from touring the city and listening to peoples' woes, Mufti addressed the party works at TRC too, putting extra burden upon himself. ''He was even asked by several party leaders on that day too that he should take rest but he refused. During the evening hours, his health deteriorated due to which he had to be admitted in AIIMS,'' one of the party leaders told Early Times.
Now, when his condition as per the reports continues to remain worrisome and doctors advising him not to take continuous rest, chances of her daughter Mehbooba Mufti assuming charge of the care taker CM are high.
Sources said that though everyone across is praying for Mufti's good health but it is also true that he would no longer be advised to work tirelessly in the office as he used to in the past. ''It will be sane to state that at least for few months, Mufti sahib cannot take the heavy responsibility and he has to take rest so that his health gets improved, "sources said.
"The Jammu and Kashmir CM continues to be in the ICU, requiring oxygen therapy. His vital parameters are stable. He is alert and taking diet," Amit Gupta, spokesperson of AIIMS in New Delhi had said on December 31.
Gupta had stated further that Mufti's progress and treatment is being closely monitored by a team of experts comprising doctors from several departments.
