Media barred; Parray walks away | Baramulla review meeting | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report BARAMULLA, Jan 2: The Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA) today lodged strong protest against the district administration after they were not allowed to cover the review meeting of the district held today at the Dak Bunglow. Early Times has also learnt from sources that during the review meeting, MLC Mohammad Muzaffar Parray walked out of the meeting after heated arguments with minister and MLA Pattan, Imran Raza Ansari and Director CAPD department Abdul Rashid War. Minister for Public Health Engineering and Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Kumar, who is the chairman of District Development Board Baramulla was taking review of the developmental and pending work in the district. A member of BWJA said that he failed to understand that why the media as not allowed to cover the review meeting. He said this is not the first time when media both electronic and print was not allowed to cover the event. Senior journalist and Chairperson of BWJA, Karamat Qayoom told Early Times that media has been gagged every time in Baramulla district over different issues on one or the other pretext. "Being a fourth estate of the democracy, when we are not allowed to cover these events, then how is it possible to bring the reality of these meeting before the general public," said Chairperson BWJA. PHE Minister Sukhnandan Kumar on the sidelines of a function said that he is not aware that why media was not allowed by the district administration to cover the review meeting. Meanwhile, a spokesman of Awami Itihad Party said that party President and MLA Langate Assembly Constituency, Engineer Abdul Rashid was dragged out after he had sought an appointment with the PHE Minister, during his tour to Baramulla. The spokesman said that when Rashid along with his driver and PRO reached Dak Bunglow, the party president was not allowed to enter and was detained at the gate by heavy contingent of police. The spokesman alleged that police dragged AIP President him by neck and other cops ruthlessly followed which resulted in minor injuries to him. |
