NHRC receives 2000 complaints in 6 yrs from JK | Spurt in complaints during Omar regime | | Akshay Azad

Jammu, Jan 2 : Signifying high incidence of human rights violations in J&K, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has received 328 complaints from the trouble torn state during 2015, taking the total number of complaints received by the HR watchdog in last six years to 2000. As per data available with Early Times, the commission has received 2000 complaints from J&K during last six years (till Jan 31, 2015). Out of these, 1408 have been disposed off while 388 are still pending with the Commission. In further breakup, the data reveals that in year 2015 NHRC received 328 complaints till Jan 31 of which 228 are disposed off and 100 are still pending. In year 2014, the data reveals that in the year 2014, NHRC received 277 complaints till Nov 25, out of which 181 were disposed off and 96 are pending. In the year 2013, 389 cases were reported from the state of which 389 cases were disposed off and 73 are pending. In the year 2012, 411 cases were reported and 391 were disposed off while 20 are pending and during 2011, 371 cases were reported of which 272 were disposed off and 99 remained pending. The data further divulges that during 2010, NHRC received 224 complaints of which 206 were disposed off leaving 18 pending. Expressing concern, Jammu-based human rights activist, Om Parkash said that increase in registration of such cases was due to apathetic attitude of concerned authorities and less conviction rate. He added that maximum complaints reported to NHRC are excess by Army and paramilitary forces. He said that complaints related to state authorities are generally dealt by SHRC which remain defunct fort quiet some time. |
