9000 schools without electricity, 1000 sans playgrounds | Miserable condition of Hr Sec schools exposes govt claims | | Bijay Charak Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 2: The claims of providing quality education notwithstanding, the students in Jammu Kashmir especially in rural areas crave for basic facilities. Sources in School education department informed Early Times that state has 4198 higher secondary schools of which around 900 are still without electricity which the students in these schools are still deprived of computer education. They further said that 25 percent higher secondary schools were without playgrounds. A total of 1000 schools out of total 4198 are without playground facility', source said, adding that the absence of playground facility, diminishes the possibilities of government school students to become players. "Where the sports items are being used in government schools if there are no playgrounds in these schools, it is a million dollar question. In recent past, Union government had launched Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyaan, envisaging nearly 6500 sports complexes in rural blocks, but same had failed to emphasize over establishing playground in government schools to foster hidden talent", they said. It was very surprising that 166 higher secondary schools out of 4198 schools are without girls' toilets. Nearby 330 higher secondary schools in which there was no toilet facility for male students. They further said that a total of 82 Government Higher Secondary Schools of Jammu and Kashmir had no drinking water facility. Repeated to Commissioner Secretary School Education department Shaleen Kabra went in vain. |
