PWD ignores HC directions; leaves many bread earners unemployed | | | Early Times Report Jammu Jan 2: Flouting the directions of the court to maintain status quo, Public Works Department razed to the ground over 100 shops in Miran Sahib leaving many households shattered. Om Parkash Khajauria, HR Activist while talking to Early Times said that the thoughtless move of the State Public Works Department to widen road from Blowal Bridge to Miran Sahib onwards was fraught with faulty planning and the action of the department was erratic. He averred that work of widening the road from Blowal bridge to Miran Sahib and further to R.S.Pura was started way back in 2006 as the same process from Airport to Blowal Bridge was completed before 2006. He further informed that since few shopkeepers of Miran Sahib had already sought stay orders from the Court against dismantling of their shops under Prevention of Ribbon Development Act on 13-12-2006, in gross violation of Court orders, the PWD went ahead to dismantle 54 shops fully and 50 shops partially in the month of May 2008 which brought many persons and their families at the verge of starvation. The source further informed that in reply to RTI, Public Works Department informed vide letter No:SEJ/RTI-20/11641-42 Dated 12-11-2011 that due to pendency of the case in the Court of Law , the work of widening the road from Blowal bridge to R.S.Pura which was to be completed fully within three yearstargeted period had to be left half-way. Since the work was to be completed fully within three years started in 2006, the Department should have achieved the target by 2009 and if there was a case pending in the Court of Law as cited by PWD, then what were the reasons, which prompted PWD knowingly to dismantle over 100 shops of Miran Sahib in a jiffy within hours against the spirit of Court orders. Putting a question mark on the developmental agenda of the State Government enunciated by BJP, the sources told that the road from Airport to Miran Sahib onwards is badly dilapidated with big potholes all along the road making it accident prone for the commuters especially for two wheelers riders, but the concerned Department is unmindful about the repair of the busy road. |
