Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 2: Kashmiri Pandits have reiterated their demand for grant of permission to visit world famous Sharda temple in Pak Occupied Kashmir with various KP leaders making a fervent appeal to External Affairs Minister Sushma Sawaraj to take up the issue with Pakistan Government during her forthcoming visit to the neighboring country.
The appeal was made by the leaders of various KP organizations including Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC), All Migrant Camp Coordination Committee, Jagti Welfare Committee etc in their separate letters to Mrs Swaraj.
They said Sharda Shrine situated on the bank of river Madumati in Athmuqam tehsil of Muzaffarabad in PoK is a world famous Hindu shrine the history of which dates back to Puranic period and is linked to churning of sea by Lord Shiva. They said not only the Kashmiri Pandits but the sentiments of Hindus all over globe are attached to this shrine which has been made out of bound for them after the forcible occupation of a portion of Kashmir by Pakistan in 1947. They said since then the Hindus of the India in general and those of Kashmir Valley in particular crave for a visit the holy shrine but they have neither been given permission nor the successive Central governments, took up the issue with their Pakistani counterparts.
However the leaders of these KP organizations said that after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed keen interest in improving bilateral issues with Pakistan by visiting the country recently which is followed by the visit of Mrs Swaraj there is every hope that the GoI may take up the issue with Pak authorities to open the holy shrine for the Hindu pilgrims.
The letter to Foreign Minister was written by KPC chief Kundan Kashmiri, ASKPC general secretary Dr Pandita, Jagti Welfare Committee leader Vinod Tickoo and AMCCC chief Desh Rattan.
These leaders have sought immediate intervention of Mrs Swaraj in this regard. They said it is high time for GoI to take up the issue with Pak authorities and fulfill the aspirations of the millions of KPs attached to the shrine as the Sharda is the presiding deity of Kashmir.
