I&FC contractors' strike enter 25th day | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 2 : Chain hunger strike started by the contractors associated with Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) department demanding release of their payments due since 2011, has entered twenty fifth day today. "Most of the contractors have borrowed money from the Finance companies and interest is increasing day by day which has worried many among them even in losing their hard earned money" said Manzoor Malik, president of I&FC Contractor Association. The matter has been raised several times with the concerned officials and Minister, but despite assurances nothing has been done to release the pending payment of the contractors, Manzoor Malik added. "We are left with no other option than to sit on hunger strike before the office of the Executive Engineer and we are not going to end our agitation till our payments were not released" said another contractor. He added department has failed to release their payments on one or another excuse for the works executed by them. Daleep Kumar and Ashraf Mirza claimed that their payments worth more than Rs2.50 crores is still pending for the works executed during and after 2012. |
