Alleged misuse of funds SVC seeks report from DC Doda 2/19/2016 12:14:03 AM Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 18: The state vigilance commission (SVC), showing serious concern over the misuse of government funds in Thathri block of Doda allegedly by the officials concerned, has sought action taken report from deputy commissioner, Doda. SVC, while proceeding on a complaint lodged by Bhagat Singh Manhas in connection with the alleged bunglings and misappropriation of government funds released under different centrally sponsored schemes for the execution of various developmental works through panchayats in Thathri block by the concerned officials in league with some prominent persons of the area, besides poor supervision and negligence on the part of concerned officers, the dilapidated condition of works taken over before a couple of years in the block, directed the additional DC, Doda, for conducting an in-depth inquiry and then submit report. The requisite report submitted before SVC prima-facie divulged that enormous funds had been drawn for execution of various developmental works in Thathri block from time to time by the concerned officials, but due to lack of proper vigilance, these had been grossly misused. Rs 2 lakh had been released for construction of playground for Upper Primary School village Nai, Thathri, out of which only a meagre amount had been spent by the concerned officials and rest of the amount stands embezzled. Similarly, Rs 3.30 lakh were drawn by the officials of social forestry for establishment of a nursery and fencing thereto at Nia, Bhalara Thathri, but no plantation was done there and fencing of the identified land was made which was later on stolen by the unscrupulous elements due to wilful negligence of officials concerned, portraying the abuse of official position and criminal breach of trust by the officials at the helm of affairs of the departments in the district, ultimately resulting in the misappropriation of funds. SVC, while taking notice of the misuse of funds meant for the upliftment of remote villages at by public servants, directed the Doda DC to take immediate action in the matter and submit it the compliance report within one month.
