Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 18: Even as the government of India is pumping crores of rupees into Jammu and Kashmir for maintenance of state roads, the PWD seems in no mood to do the needful to keep roads in good condition.
Sanai- Duggli link road of Bhaderwah is one of the live example, which was constructed a decade ago but the concerned department has not yet not black topped the road.
Asfaq Ahmed, a resident of Duggli told Early Times that Sanai- Duggli link road is the only link road which connects the dozens of far flung villages to Tehsil and District. "Few years ago the five KM road stretch from Sanai- Khelani was black topped but due to non- maintenance of such road large potholes have been developed which cause immense inconvenience to commuters", they said.
Anil Manhas, another resident said that not only local residents, but transporters are up in arms against the administration for failing to repair the road stretch we pay taxes, but fail to understand why government fails to provide quality roads. The authorities are not paying heed to their request of macadamization of this road.
"Khelani have a tourist destination and whenever any minister has to visit there.
At that time, the authorities sprinkle water on it but for us, they are not doing anything", he said, adding that many drivers simply refuse to take passengers on this road as it damages their vehicles, even the shopkeepers in the area are complaining of slump in business due to dilapidated condition of the road.
They further said that in absence of black topped the road causes lot of problems to the local residents and even passenger vehicles don't ply this road.
"Many times local had taken the matter with Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Daleep Singh Parihar to direct district administration as well as PWD officials to repair the road.
At that time they assured us, and said within days the road was repaired but nothing has done at ground", another resident said.
They appealed to Governor NN Vohra and higher authority of PWD to direct district administration to repair, black topped road immediately, so that people do not suffer more.
