Madhav-Mehbooba meet: BJP, PDP maintain silence
2/19/2016 12:21:28 AM
Peerzada Ummer
ET Report
Srinagar, Feb 18: Despite the BJP general secretary Ram Madhav holding a detailed meet with the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti for more than two hours, both parties are tight-lipped over the development.
The party hasn't even issued any statement about the meeting, hence creating a subtle stir within the political spectrum of the state.
As per sources, the PDP chief Mehbobba Mufti has categorically asked party's top leadership about not speaking to press and make the deliberations an extreme secret. "There is a delicate time going on within the party. The situation can take any turn. The parry doesn't want to reveal its cards for now," says a senior party leader.
The sudden silence from the PDP camp is giving rise to series of speculations including whether the government could be formed in the state in future and whether PDP has really agreed to go with the BJP. It was informed further that the party leadership has preferred silence and resolved to keep the ball rolling from all sides.
"In a due course of time, the party would reveal its cards. For now, there will not be an statement issued from any side. If the BJP prefers to speak, it is party's own view. The PDP has decided not to speak at all for now," sources said.
It was divulged that ahead of the Madhav- Mehbooba meet on Wednesday, the PDP president asked its leadership not to speak to press for few days over the government formation. "Even if some statements are issued by some leaders, the major facts would be kept hidden from the public gaze. There are various factors that are needed to be discussed ahead of making the progress over the government formation public," sources revealed.
The subtle issues making rounds ahead of the government formation between the PDP and the BJP include the return of the power projects, revocation of AFSPA from some parts of the state and other confidence building measures. The PDP , as per sources, has resolved to get a certain nod over these issues before making any statement over ending of the deadlock.
Pertinently, a day after meeting Mehbooba, Madhav has stated that the meet was successful and had hoped that the deadlock over the government formation would end soon in the state.
However, PDP has so far kept the cards close to the chest, making the situation more dramatic and opposition tizzy. Another major reason of PDP's present silence is the recent statement made by Muzaffar Hussain Beigh that contradicted the earlier statement of Naeem Akhtar. As Beigh stated that party's alliance with the BJP is intact and there are now new conditions set by the party, Akhar had stated that the ball is in BJP's court and it has to decide which coarse the state should take. Akhtar had stated that PDP has set conditions before the BJP for the new alliance.
