British MP says accession of J&K with India final, BJP says J&K disputed territory | What an irony! | | Early Times Report jammu, Feb 18: Robert John Blackman, Member of Parliament (MP) of United Kingdom from Harrow East area, who was here in Jammu, declared that his country stood shoulder to shoulder with India to face the challenge of terrorism and took on those who question the State's accession with India saying the accession of J&K with India was final. "Accession of J&K with India is final because 'Instrument of Accession' was signed by none less than the then ruler of J&K on behalf of the people of J&K," he said and tore into those who raised questions about accession of J&K with the Indian Union. Blackman was absolutely right. The Maharaja of the State alone had the right to determine the political fate of J&K and he exercised the authority vested in him by the Indian Independence Act and linked the fate of J&K with India. Even otherwise, no one can question the political status of J&K as Article 1 of the Indian Constitution and Section 3 of the J&K Constitution say that J&K is and shall remain an integral part of India. It is a different story that the parties like Congress and the BJP do not consider J&K an integral part of India to the same extent as other States of the Union. It was the Congress which created doubts in the mind of the people in 1949, when it incorporated Article 370 in the yet to be adopted Indian Constitution granting a separate status to J&K to fulfill the separatist urges of the Kashmir-based NC leadership. It was also the Congress which in 1952 and 1974 negotiated the J&K's future with the same leadership, thus creating serious doubts in the minds of the people about the political status of J&K vis-a-vis India. As for BJP, it along with some PDP leaders, came out with a document on March 1, 2015 that unambiguously said that J&K not only deserved separate status as it existed under Article 370 but also said that the BJP will allow the State Government to exercise powers vested in the Indian Foreign Ministry so that the Pakistani concerns were also addressed. Besides, the BJP recognized Kashmiri separatists as "stakeholders". In fact, the BJP clinched a deal with the PDP that undid all that India had done in the State before March 2015. It is ironical that while the British parliamentarian would come to Jammu all the way from London to say that accession of J&K with India was final, the BJP would endorse the separatist view and hold out a commitment in writing that it will allow the Kashmiri leadership to redefine the relationship between J&K and New Delhi in lieu of some loaves and fishes of office. That the BJP is playing a big mischief could be seen from the fact that BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, who visited Srinagar for a couple of hours to discuss the possibility of Government formation with the PDP leadership, didn't meet the waiting media persons to disclose what he had brought from New Delhi for the PDP. Two days ago, Ram Madhav had evaded a reply when asked about confidence-building measures demanded by the PDP. He had only said that "he would talk about it later". All this should expose the BJP and its dubious credentials. The situation has reached a point where its own old ally, Shiv Sena, is questioning the very nationalist credentials of the BJP. |
