Cop who decamped with four AK-47 rifles from Bijbehara, arrested | | | Early Times Report Kulgam, March 3, 2016: Kulgam Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested Shakoor Ahmad , the absconding cop from South Kashmir's Kulgam district, who on January 16, had decamped with four AK-47 rifles from the residence of a senior police officer in Bijbehara. Shakoor Ahmad Parray of Shopian was posted as PSO to DSP Irshad Ahmad-who sustained critical injuries in a militant attack at Bijbehara where he was posted. Police sources told Early Times that the cop escorting Irshad Ahmad Rather during the militant attack failed to retaliate. "When militants attacked DSP in busy Bijbehara market, this cop failed to open a single fire," sources claimed, adding, on questioning, the cop fled with four AK-47 assault rifles along with two friends who were residents of his native village. Both Gazi Fayaz Dar and Aqib Ahmad Dar were later apprehended by police and two rifles were recovered from them. Moment after cop decamped with rifles in the month of January this year, Police sounded an alert in south Kashmir area to trace the "deserter" and registered an FIR (8/15) US 409, 380, 30 Police Act against the cop. Confirming the incident a police official said that cop was arrested from a Kulgam hamlet Bihibagh, however refused to provide further details. |
