Spells conditions for NC-BJP alliance | Farooq's shocker to son Omar | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 3: On one side the former Chief Minister and NC's working president Omar Abdulah is swearing never to align with the BJP, on the other side his father is setting conditions for the alliance with BJP for the Government formation in J&K. In his recent interview, Omar's dad and NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah stirred hornet's nest in valley's political spectrum, saying only after the BJP shuns its demand of abrogating the Atrticle 370- which provides special status to Jammu and Kashmir, NC would think of stitching the common ground with the BJP which has 25 members in State's Legislative Assembly. "Our position is very much clear that there should be no demand of Article 370 abrogation. NC is never going to align with the BJP if it talks of 370 abrogation," Dr Farooq said. This 78- year-old NC patron who has been State's Chief Minister thrice in the past has subtly sent a hint to the BJP that a common understanding between the two parties is possible. The condition that Dr Farooq has set is similar to what PDP has been saying. After the two month of hectic deliberations, PDP and BJP formulated agenda of alliance according to which status quo shall be maintained over various issues of subtlety including that of Article 370. Dr Farooq has further set the ball rolling by revealing that after the 2014's fractured mandate was witnessed in the State, NC was involved in secret parleys with the BJP for the Government formation. Till date, Omar Abdullah and other NC leaders had been denying that they held any talks with the BJP for the Government formation after 2014 polls. Dr Farooq while contradicting the statements of his own son said: "We had discussions. There is no denial of the fact. Omar too talked to them (BJP). There is no hidden thing in all this. But the fact is that we couldn't become the part of the Government as we didn't had the numbers," Dr Farooq says in his recent interview with the news magazine. On the other hand, Omar Abdullah during the party convention at south Kashmir's Shopian on Wednesday stated that NC would never go with the BJP and that the party has never held any discussions with it for the Government formation. The contradictory statements coming to fore between the father-son due is revealing that there is more to it in the National Conference than what is meeting the eyes. A senior leader said that Dr Farooq had some discussions within the party over the alliance with the BJP in the State and that the NC patron sought their suggestions over the possibilities of joining hands with the BJP. In the past as well, Dr Farooq had said that NC would be ready for forming the Government with the BJP. Later, he retracted from earlier statement, saying he never used such words. Surprisingly, Dr Farooq had talked about the BHJP-NC alliance infront of the news cameras and being misquoted is among the least possibilities. Meanwhile, there are high chances of more dramas that would be in the coming time with the National Conference- something that would keep JK's political pot boiling. |
